Why do men die younger?
I inspire many idiotic arguments. One of these on and off discussion with a friend is why men tend to die younger than women. In US men's average life span is 72 and women 79. From time to time I would complain to her about the unfairness of it all. Little did I know, she would provide an argument that makes men's shorter lifetime seem logical and justified...
My argument:
- Men has only one X chromosome, no redundant back-up of important genetic information like women who has XX.
- Society discourage men to express emotion, more specifically men are discouraged on the act of crying. Suppressed emotion over a life time is harmful to one's health.
- Estrogen lowers harmful cholesterol and raises "good" cholesterol (high-density lipoprotein).
- Testosterone increases aggression and competitive behavior in young men; it also increases levels of harmful cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein).
I think she won.
